What God Did

With the Becoming materials now in Arabic, Kerry, her daughter, Annika, and a small team set off for Egypt.

On the first day in Cairo, our team met with Christian leaders and engaged together in the faith practices for Becoming, focusing on how to stop “spirals of fear” and start “cycling in grace.” It deeply resonated with the attendees, both men and women.

We visited Mama Maggie’s ministry in the slums of Cairo, where the poor are fed, educated, taught about Jesus, and given medical care.

We saw the Sphinx, climbed the pyramids, rode camels, ate Egyptian food, learned to make papyrus, swam in the Red Sea, viewed mummies, read hieroglyphs, and experienced a miracle that solidified 11-year-old Annika’s faith like never before!

Annika came down with a virus in Egypt that attacked her leg muscles to the point of losing her ability to walk. It was scary! We were told it would likely be five days before she’d be back on her feet, assuming it was what we hoped. Our group anointed & prayed over her. That very night, Annika had a dream where she was asking Jesus to heal her. Then, still dreaming, she saw Jesus come and touch her legs to heal them. When Annika woke the following day, she was able to walk perfectly.

Before Annika had gotten sick, Kerry gave scripture verses to each person on the trip. The one Annika received read, “If you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can say to a mountain, “move,” and it will move.” Annika reminded us of this and said, “This happened to me- God did a miracle for me.”  While in Egypt we learned that this has been the anchor verse explaining the greatest miracle in the Egyptian Church since 949 AD! (See the story of Mokattam Mountain) Now, Annika has her own “stone of remembrance,” which may be more like a boulder.

“Samuel put a stone between ‘Shin’ (the place of breaking) and ‘Mizpah’ (the high place to see God’s coming) and called it ‘Eben Ezer’ (stone of help) and said ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us.’”

Our ministry has been asked to return to teach a full BECOMING retreat. May the Lord make a way.  We are grateful for all He has done so far and for our partners who help support outreach like this for the people of Egypt.

Becoming’s next trip will partner with Casa Materna and Hava Foundation in July 2024. Kerry will be headed to Guatemala to conduct a retreat for Indigenous women working in midwifery. Stay tuned for our next update on this trip.

Participants Testify

This trip to Egypt was the first trip of this kind that I was able to take with my husband. Traveling through Egypt with Kerry brought a deep spiritual experience for both of us. Her teaching each day gave us eyes to see what God had, not only for the trip but also for us as believers.  Becoming has helped me to rely more on Christ, to let go, and to have faith in His plans for me.

I think the Holy Spirit has been hard at work, and I thank you SO MUCH for facilitating this whole retreat, for coming up with these incredible tools, and for showing me what God has been trying to show me for so long.

As the trip coordinator, I sought God for a long time before the trip to Egypt ever came together.  I could not have anticipated the crucial part Becoming would play in the hearts of everyone in attendance.  Becoming gave us a language and added a depth of experience in the most simple and natural ways, further confirming God’s hand in the trip and the assembly.  Through Becoming and Kerry’s teaching, I witnessed many seeds being planted in the hearts of all of those in attendance.  I am grateful for the perspective and vision that Becoming gave to the trip.. I have been a Becomer for over a decade, and God continues to amaze me through these tools everywhere I go.

Experiencing Becoming in Cairo with Kerry reignited a fire in my walk and life at a time when my family was in crisis and I was in so many painful, broken pieces. I was in the midst of caring for both of my recently ill children - one so seriously ill with a neuroinflammation condition she had lost her ability to attend school. I felt lost and terrified, and for many days, I frankly wasn’t making it. But I knew God’s answer to the trip was “go,” even when every rationale would say I couldn’t come. I knew it was a prompting from the Lord to say yes. When I stepped off the plane in Cairo, I was one big, painful fragment - like I couldn’t stop the bleeding. But as we went - with Kerry pouring in every step of the way - I started to find my feet and learn how to stand again, I started to identify the pieces- and somehow along the way I got my fire back. After 4 days, I stepped onto the plane back home, newly clothed and deeply grounded in Jesus - equipped to be the mom marked by Christ that my girls especially needed. That trip was pivotal for not just me but my entire family. The JOY of the Lord became my strength when my own strength had previously been failing me in the midst of our circumstances.

I will forever hold dear those 4 days in Cairo and can look back and remember all God did in my life with that “yes” to going!
